I freaking hate Berkheimer. Every year we have a battle because they pull out some nonsense claiming I owe money from 15 years ago and no one can explain why. I’ll file then they come back and claim I never filed. Or I’ll get a final notice telling me I’m about to have wages garnished but I never got a single notice and somehow all the previous notices went to a different address but the final notice miraculously came to the right address.

It’s pretty standard for US universities to require international students to pay full tuition. They also often have to provide proof of funds to cover their entire tuition before they are accepted.

You can literally Google school + international students and they will tell you all of what’s required. A quick google search confirms what I told you you at least for Penn State. International students are not offered any kind of financial aid. And you you to prove you have funds to pay tuition in full before attending.

On a student visa, you probably won’t be able to work. Except maybe at the school. MAYBE.

Pennsylvania is as safe or dangerous as any other place. Stay out of sketchy areas and dark alleys alone at night and you will likely be fine.

You’re going to have the exact same situation no matter what state/location as far as type of visa required and tuition payment requirements.

As an international student you will have to pay full tuition out of pocket so that’s your first step.

It’s more that someone out of state is less likely to fight the ticket because it would mean traveling back to the area. They are more likely to just pay it.

I have had more unfounded run ins with CYS than anyone I know. I was a black single mom (currently no longer single) with a toddler I was so careful about my son getting any kind of regular bumps or scrapes because it meant a new report to CYS. When my son got older aka the teenage years , those shifted to police reports. All unfounded and all quickly cleared.

I was black and single but I wasn’t poor which probably helped resolve my situations quickly. By that I mean I didn’t have to worry about anything that might make them take second looks. I can easily see how that could spiral if the house was messy because you were working multiple jobs, if your cupboards were thin because of lack of funds and any of the other downsides of being poor.
