Would the most sentient, high functioning ai every actually experience emotion or is it just categorizing and/or defining based on learned rules? Does it just know that the emotion would be appropriate given the parameters of the situation?
Even if it can’t experience emotion for real, does its thinking it experiences emotion effectively mean it is experiencing emotion because it will react in a way that it has learned is appropriate for the given emotion?
Edit addition = Thank you for all the answers, opinions, commentary, and discussion

Do people experience emotions, or just think they do? If an AI thinks it is experiencing emotions, then it is experiencing emotions.
