No, but his fictional backstory is that he’s from the small town of Kickapoo Mo. Which is actually a high school here. I’ve always guessed he saw the name Kickapoo High School and assumed it must be a town.

He records all of his music in Springy because it’s a smaller/more chill town. There’s an interview somewhere where he basically says “Springfield has a more grateful audience, it’s harder to impress people in LA” or something to that effect.

I love him too lol he actually came to town a few years ago to a local gun show. I was tempted to start going to the gun shows every year since 🤣 supposedly he’s got a house around Springfield, I think closer to Branson , but idk if he ever goes there

If you're from Springfield and haven't familiarized yourself with the Skeltons, you're doing it wrong. Add in Lou Whitney's contributions as a producer for extra credit.

Not from, but the Carter family lived in Springfield and performed on KWTO around 1950. It was the same time Chet Atkins was here. When Johnny Cash performed in Springfield in the 70s, June told the crowd that she was home.

I went to junior high and high school with Shaun. Awesome dude and amazingly talented. First time I heard him play was in a junior high school talent show and I was blown away by what he can do on the bass.

Edit: Words are hard.

Charles Haden lived here with his family as a child. They had a radio program and he started singing on it at age 2. He went on to become a famous and influential jazz bass player. He was interviewed on Fresh Air several times. Very interesting.

Musician and songwriter Wayne Carson called Springfield home for a length of time.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wayne_Carson

Country musician Porter Wagner was from West Plains which is almost in the neighborhood.

I'd bet that a look through the history of Ozarks Jubilee on radio station KWTO would yield a lot of information on musicians from this area.

True story. Sneak Preview, as they were known at the time, opened for a band I was in back in my hippie musician days.

We were all blown away by (Ty?) the bass player and how incredibly good he was.

Perhaps Lou Whitney of The Morells. They did the song about the original Red’s Hamburg. He was more well known as a producer/engineer. On a side note, he’s in a documentary about Ozarks musicians called The Center of Nowhere that came out in 2020. Pretty cool and easy to catch for free on streaming.

This is second hand knowledge from Dallas Jones but Stephanie Dosen was apparently pretty big in the Springfield music scene around the turn of the century and she was a member of Massive Attack for a while. She was born in Wisconsin though.

I’ve got a new podcast called 417 Sound. I’m a local musician and I’m interviewing other local talents. We’ve got a criminally underrated local music scene here with loads of talent. I’m hoping to get it out there some more.

I’ll be posting Episode 3 with Chelsey James tomorrow (former lead singer of Member’s Only), and Episode 4 is with Jake Simpson, who won Star Search on CBS (twice) and performed with Stevie Wonder on Oprah. I have a bunch more interviews lined up, including one with Shaun Munday.

Would appreciate all of you music lovers checking it out! OP, maybe you’ll find a new local artist to get into!

Came here to say this. Most people don’t know that two of the most recognizable songs from the 80s came from a guy who calls Springfield his home. I believe he used to be part owner in a studio downtown and also still has a home here on the east outskirts of town.
